Collected over a lifetime of travel and discovery, Chuck is sharing a few pieces from his personal collection with Courtyard Lifestyle.
This French faïence or "Terre de Fer" (ironstone) plate is most likely produced by renowned French manufactures, primarily Creil et Montereau or Sarreguemines. The highly geometric, repeating lace-like monochrome border is a signature 19th-century French transferware design often paired with thematic central illustrations. The black transferware illustration is based on a classic steel engraving depicting Allegory of England (originally after an artwork by Francis Philip Stephanoff). It portrays a noblewoman practicing falconry with a hawk perched on her gloved hand, accompanied by an attendant leaning down toward a hunting dog
